Preparing for Your Prov Exam

At Prov, we’re dedicated to taking the stress out of test day. That’s why we’re compiling our top tips to help you feel as prepared as possible.

Ready to make your test day a breeze? Use these tips in the days leading up to your exam and take on your test with confidence! (Taking a test with ExamRoom.AI? Click here for specific instructions.)

3 Days Before Your Exam

1. Look up directions to your test site

Your testing site address was sent in your confirmation email (at the time of scheduling) and SMS reminder messages (for those who have opted-in). Take time now to map out your route, identify parking, and plan to arrive 15 minutes early. Don’t forget to take traffic into consideration!

2. Locate your ID

Every Prov test candidate is required to have a valid, government-issued ID at the time of check-in. Drivers’ licenses, passports, and military IDs are all accepted. However, paper IDs, temporary IDs, copies, or electronic versions of ID will NOT be accepted. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but unfortunately cannot waver on this policy. If you do not have a valid form of ID available, you may be asked to reschedule.

3. Review your Candidate Information Bulletin

Your Candidate Information Bulletin is a great resource for understanding the specific details of your test. This includes the duration of your exam, exam descriptions, and lists of approved items. If you don’t have a copy of your Candidate Information Bulletin, download it here: https://provexam.com/test-information/

Approved & Restricted Items

Many Prov exams are open book and will allow you to use your references during testing. However, these policies vary by licensing board, and you should always confirm with your candidate bulletin ahead of time.

Restricted items include:

  • Loose papers or notes
  • Removable tabs
  • Practice tests
  • Cell phones
  • Earphones
  • Watches
  • The use of any wireless technology

On the Day of Your Exam

Now that you’ve completed your test preparation, it’s time to head to the test center. The following is a step-by-step of what you can expect on test-day.

1. Arrive 15 minutes early

Please take any traffic or walking time into consideration to ensure you arrive on time. You’ll want plenty of time to locate the testing center and get checked in. Candidates who arrive late or do not appear for their test will be marked as a no-show and forfeit their exam fees.

2. Check in with the proctor

When you arrive at the testing center, a proctor will greet you and help you check-in. They will check your ID, take your photo, and check your materials to make sure they meet the approved requirements. You may be asked to secure any personal items in a storage area for the duration of the exam. Don’t be afraid to ask questions during check-in! Your proctor wants to help you succeed.

3. Log in to your test

After check-in, your proctor will guide you to your seat and deliver any instructions. They will help you get logged in for your exam. TEST DAY TIP: Your allotted testing time will not begin until your proctor helps you officially start your exam. Don’t worry if check-in takes a few extra minutes!

4. When can I expect my scores?

While scoring policies vary by licensing board, most candidates will receive a written score within 1 hour after testing. Practical test scores can be expected within 2-3 business days.
